Long haul Covid-19
According to the National Health Service of the UK, long term Covid may have some of the following symptoms:
- extreme tiredness (fatigue)
- shortness of breath chest pain or tightness
- problems with memory and concentration (“brain fog”)
- difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
- heart palpitations
- dizziness
- pins and needles
- high temperature
- depression and anxiety
joint pain tinnitus, earaches feeling sick, diarrhea, stomach aches, loss of appetite a high temperature, cough, headaches, sore throat, changes to sense of smell or taste
rashes
If you feel up to some inspiration, this link discusses how some medical doctors recorded body temperatures associated with typhoid fever back in the 1800s.
Our first goal in this study is to test our ability to track these symptoms with an online questionnaires. Our second goal is to FDA’s approval to test Cu(I)NA2 as an investigational new drug (IND) to treat long haul Covid-19 symptoms. Cu(I)NA2 is currently sold as a dietary supplement.
Fatigue
What was an endurance activity that you enjoyed before you got Covid? Say you enjoyed walking your dog for an hour. How long ( or far) can you walk your dog now? Record how long you can walk your dog before getting tired for a week. Or maybe your endurance activity was working in the yard. About how long were you able to work in the yard before Covid. How long can you last now?
Shortness of breath
You may not remember the level of exertion that caused “shortness of breath” before you got Covid. What are you doing when you experienced shortness of breath now?
Brain fog
How do you define “brain fog?” Did you take a list of things you needed from the store pre-Covid and found that you rarely had to look at the list? Now how many items can you get at the store before having to look at your list?
High temperatures
This is a tough one because our oral temperatures undergo diurnal variations in response to sun light and a copper-rich region of our brains called the locus ceruleus . Record your oral temperature and the time of day when you wake up, right before you go to bed, and every 1-2 hours while you are awake. Normally a person experiences a low in early morning and a high during the late afternoon. Logging your oral temperatures for a day or two can give you and your physician an idea of your circadian rhythms are off.
Insomnia
Sleep and wakefulness are also controlled by the copper rich region of our brains called the locus ceruleus. Would you say that your problem is falling asleep in the first place, staying asleep, waking up feeling rested?
Depression and anxiety
The locus ceruleus also controls our level of alertness and adrenergic responses to our environment.
Loss of smell.
Hold something that you’d normally have considered aromatic, how many inches does it have to be from your nose before you smell it? If you are used to using the metric system, record in centimeters. State which unit you are using, e.g. 10 cm away from your favorite aftershave with the cap off.
Sore throat
Rank on scale of 0 to 10. Zero is no sore throat at all. Ten is something bad, for instance an acid reflux sore throat. What does your sore throat feel like?
Nausea or vomiting
How many times since you recorded last did you feel nausea or vomiting? Make up your own scale, if you feel so motivated. And if you have nausea and/or vomiting of course!
Diarrhea
How many times did you “go” that was outside of your normal rhythm of going?
Fatigue
How approximately how many yards / meters can you walk before you feel exhausted? For instance, your bed is about six yards from your bathroom. Do you feel exhausted going from your bed to your bathroom?
